What exactly is petrAlogy?  It is an interactive study of Rock Culture.  Every Wednesday petrAlogy 233’s (P233) Vera Petra, Clarisa Dear and Audience Collaborators explore the realm of rock culture. Note: petrAlogy is not to be confused with Petrology spelled with an "o", which is the study of actual rock(s).

PETRALOGY 233 PROJECTS

PROJECT 1: Young Grasshopper is a rocker who has mastered the art of row hopping (RH) at concerts. Young Grasshopper has been providing P233 with feedback on his progress.

July 17, 2009 Grasshopper reached the APEX of RH, hopping his way backstage at the Papa Roach//Nickelback show in Hershey, PA. Congratulations Young Grasshopper!!!

5.22.09 Vera and Clarisa declare themselves petrAlogists

8.19.09 Grasshopper becomes the 1st P233 petrAlogist. Grasshopper agrees to contribute weekly petrAlogical questions and row hopping data to this Worldwide Interactive Study of Rock!!!

8.26.09 Lorelei, of PIBCO's Saturday Night 70's, is declared our 2nd petrAlogist!!! Lorelei will take us to the petrAzone of the 70’s!!!

9.2.08 Aurora Nova our 3rd petrAlogist, drummer of Truth N’ Tempest, shared her personal experiences as a drummer, from Inspiration to Destination. Aurora will continue to update P233 on her experiences.

9.9.09 SubJunk, of PIBCO’s Suburban Junkyard, surpassed Grasshopper’s petrAlogical questioning even presenting some of his own petrAlogical questions during the examination, Nice Work to our 4th petrAlogist!!!   

9.16.09 Lora AKA Sniper, took us through the petrAzone of photography. Our 5th petrAlogist Sniper has agreed to take our petrA U. class picture!!!

TEXT: Rock n’ Roll Encyclopedia of your choice

COURSE OBJECTIVES: This course is a collaborative effort between facilitators and instructors to examine Rock Culture through a Worldwide Study. Instructors include all individuals who contribute personal experience and knowledge to this interactive study. Facilitators are here to help guide the process of this study.

Assignment I: Introductions
Personal Rock Time Line: Write or draw a time line identifying songs you remember hearing through out your lifetime
EXTRA CREDIT:
Identify at least one band in your rock time line that has an album out this year.

Assignment II: Some History 
Rock Band Family Tree: Put together a family tree of one of your favorite Rock Bands; including bands/projects members were in pre and post your favorite band.

Assignment III: Contributing Material
Recommend Resources: Identify at least 2 resources you feel will be insightful for your Rock peers. Resources can include but not limited to; books, documentaries, interviews and movies.

Assignment IV: Your Rock N’ Role Project
Define your role in rock culture: for example your role can be: a fan, band member, street team, manager, security, producer, roadie, publicist, photographer, journalist, tour bus driver, etc. (See Grasshopper’s, Aurora Nova’s & Lora AKA Sniper’s  projects) You can do this in the form of a paper or an on-air interview.
